Professional Design for the Home Barista
The Rancilio Silvia offers nothing short of the best when it comes to the design and functionality of the machine. The stainless steel machine is compact, taking up only a little valuable counter space and offers black and chrome highlights around the device. The machine is tall and rectangular instead of short and rectangular, which results in the small footprint.
Black ergonomic handles allow for comfortable gripping of the portafilter and steam wand while keeping you protected from potentially hot metal. The entire body and control panel is finished in a brushed, satin-finish stainless steel that is sure to make the Rancilio Silvia a conversation piece and accent in your counter — not to mention it will easily complement any decor you’ve already got in your kitchen.
The supporting structure of the Rancilio Silvia is made of black-painted iron; the dispensing unit and boiler are made from marine brass. The device is also equipped with a professional dispensing unit and filter holder for more accurate brewing.

The Rancilio Silvia comes equipped with one filter holder that has a filter and 2-dose filter; it also has a measuring scoop and tamper included so there’s no need to purchase these items separately.
You can also opt for a pod-adaptor kit which includes a diffuser, shower screen, two spacers and a pod filter. This is an exceptional kit, especially if you’ve found that your favorite coffee happens to come in a pod.

The steam wand and valve are new for the Rancilio Silvia and add to the functionality and professional appearance; they are also extremely functional. You have three buttons on the left-hand side of the machine for espresso, steam and frothing; there is also a power button located on the front in the center.

The rest is divided between 3, 2 and 1 star reviews. One negative reviewer suggested spending at least $350 on a nice burr grinder because the Rancilio Silvia is extremely finicky about the grinds; many good machines are, however, and the grinds are the key to perfect espresso. There also seems to be a learning curve related to the temperature swings the Silvia has become famous for. All in all, however, the reviews rave about everything from the features to the design.
