Style
Nespresso has an eye for style which is prevalent in the eye-catching designs of the machines they make. Each of their lines of espresso machines offers a different element, and the Nespresso D290 is no exception.
Upon first glance, you’re slightly taken away by the futuristic design. The spigot doesn’t look like a spigot — instead it simply sits out over the drip tray at the end of a black arm. The sleek, round curves of the device line the sides and create a seamless flow throughout the exterior of the machine. Chrome lines the drip tray and various other small accessories to give the machine a “pop.” The black and stainless go well together and will complement just about every kitchen there is.
What you won’t see, however, is anything that looks even somewhat confusing. The buttons are straightforward, allowing fine espresso making to come into even the most novice of home baristas’ home.
Simplicity
Aside from style, Nespresso is also known for the simplicity of their machines. It doesn’t take long to figure out how to brew the perfect cup of espresso or cappuccino with the Nespresso D290, unlike many other machines on the market that take multiple attempts before you even get a halfway-decent cup.
The back-lit buttons are self-explanatory. Power button, brew button and a steam button. Pretty simple. Steaming is also simple. Put the extraction tube in your milk cup and the Nespresso D290 extracts the milk the puts it in your coffee cup for the perfect froth.
The capsules are another example of the machine’s (and all Nespresso machines) easy-to-use design. Nespresso capsules simply fit in the arm above the spigot where the machine perforates the cup and allows the perfect amount of hot water to flow through the capsule. The capsules then discard into a capsule containment system which will hold 12 spent capsules. No measuring grounds, no tamping, no mess.

Like any machine, the Nespresso D290 Concept gets a few negative comments thrown in with the overwhelming majority of great comments. On Amazon, however, the negative reviews were not necessarily about the machine, but rather the exclusive “club” you must join in order to purchase your coffee capsules. While many users thoroughly enjoy the capsules, others are not please that you must order them through Nespresso if you don’t have a [rare] Nespresso Boutique locally.
Rave reviews mention the simplicity of the machine, the taste of the espresso and the ingenious design. This is one of the “old” Nespresso model (released 5 years ago) and it’s getting more and more difficult to find it. So if you enjoy this design, don’t delay!
