Simplicity and Design

There’s something to be said about simple machines whose designs have stood the test of time and are as popular now — in the age of technology — as they were when they were first introduced. This is certainly the case when discussing the Vev Vigano Carioca Nero.

Almost all of the device is made of a quality 18/10 stainless steel, including the filter plate and funnel located on the inside of the machine. The safety pressure valve, however, is made of brass. The outside is polished with a mirror-like finish that is sure to make a statement on your stove-top. The stainless steel is a step up from similar machines that use aluminum; aluminum oxidizes and can sometimes leave a metallic taste in the coffee.

Stovetop espresso makers work by heating up the water in a bottom chamber, pushing it through the coffee in the filter and up into the top chamber for a simple-yet-perfect cup of espresso.

Once the espresso is ready in the top chamber, you can easily pour it from virtually any angle thanks to the flared-lip carafe. Hold onto the machine’s uniquely shaped, black plastic handle for easy pouring.

Even Amazon didn’t offer too many reviews, but the Vev Vigano Carioca Nero 1-Cup received a perfect 5 out of 5 stars on their site. The coffeemaker is composed of three parts: bottom chamber, funnel filter and top chamber. Consisting of only three parts already makes this machine simpler to use than any other machine out there.

Simply fill the bottom chamber up to the line with cold water, then position the funnel filter over it. Fill the funnel with your espresso-ground coffee and attach the top filter. When it’s placed on the stove top, the water heats up and pressure pulls the water from the bottom chamber through the coffee grounds and into the top chamber. Voila, your three perfect cups of espresso is ready to go as soon as you hear the pressured water rising to the top chamber. The Bialetti Moka Express also has a built-in pressure-release valve for safety; you should always stand by your coffeemaker in case the pressure gets to high and you need to flip the switch.
